Heartbroken Badass: His epic crowing and fighting prowess proves he's one tough rooster, but being laughed off the farm at the beginning of the movie hit him really hard. Decoy Protagonist: Despite opening up on him, it's Edmond who is the real protagonist of the story. Cocky Rooster: A masculine-looking rooster with an exaggerated top-heavy build, in line with the stereotype of roosters as macho animals. Big Damn Heroes: The moment he finds out what Pinky's been up to, he instantly abandons any further desire to work with the scheming filmmaker and escapes with Goldie in the middle of a film shoot to save his real friends. Berserk Button: Don't EVER mess with his friends, as Pinky very nearly found out when he verbally abused Goldie right in front of him while gloating about the capture of his friends. Ambiguous Disorder: His almost complete loss of will to live due to crushing loneliness after being run off the farm shows signs of serious, diagnosable Depression. With the help of Edmond, the farm animals set on a journey to bring back Chanticleer and raise the sun once again. Back at the farm, the same animals who shunned Chanticleer realise that he really did raise the sun, and with him gone, the Grand Duke of Owls shows up to cast the world in an eternal, rainy night. Some time later, he gets a job in the city as an Elvis-esque performer and gets hundreds of adoring fans. His so-called friends mock him and declare him a fraud, which causes him to leave the farm. Then one day he forgets to crow, and the sun rises without him. And that's why this voice means everything."Ī rooster whose job is to crow so the sun knows to come up. The Mind Is a Plaything of the Body: Edmond meows in surprise and licks himself when first turned into a cat, but it's mostly played for laughs and never comes up again. Meaningful Name: Hes named after French writer Edmond Rostand, who wrote the play the movie was (very) loosely based on. Since Edmond is really a human who knows the most about the city they're trying to find Chanticleer in, the others tend to follow his lead. The Leader: Of his, Patu's, Peeper's, and Snipes' team. Journey to the Center of the Mind: When it looks like Peepers is crushed in a wreck, Edmond mentally retreats into his own mind and has to overcome the phantoms of all the people who mocked and terrified him in order to snap out of it and save her. Informed Flaw: He's supposedly a scaredy-cat who lets his fear control him until he learns to overcome it near the end, but apart from a few moments of understandable hesitation in the face of danger (like Pinkie's goons chasing him), he's never shown letting his fear get in the way of doing what needs to be done. 
He then shows no further embarrassment from wandering around with his bottom-half exposed. only to wear a shirt and hat from one of his toys. It's especially pronounced because he covers his privates and runs for cover when he first realizes he's naked. Half-Dressed Cartoon Animal: After being turned into a cartoon cat.At times it's hard to understand him because of it. Elmuh Fudd Syndwome: This is the way he speaks.When he attempts to eat Peepers early on in the film, he comes to his senses and calls himself out on it.
Cute Kitten: Edmond post-transformation is a cute little kitten possessing few negative qualities associated with cats. 
Cassandra Truth: None of the other animals believe him when he says he was a human who was turned into a cat by the Grand Duke.Captain Obvious: Much of his dialogue is repeating everything everyone else says several times.Baleful Polymorph: Edmond's transformed into a kitten at the beginning of the movie and turns back into a human at the end.Having known beforehand about the farm animals' situation, Edmond brings along a few of them and sets out to retrieve Chanticleer back to the farm. The boy instead encounters the Grand Duke of Owls, the one responsible for the rooster's disappearance, and gets transformed into a kitten before Patou saves his life at the last moment. As his family struggles to prevent an incoming flood from razing their farm, Edmond calls out to Chanticleer in the storm.
